Planning your trip
A Veneers Trip to Istanbul, Day by Day
A typical veneers trip to Istanbul takes 5–7 days with two main visits: examination, smile design and preparation with temporary veneers at the start, then try-in and bonding once the laboratory has made your veneers. It starts at home with an online consultation and a written plan, and your dentist confirms the days after examining you.

Key takeaways
- Before you book, get a written plan and ask who will treat you and what aftercare is included [3].
- Temporary veneers protect the prepared teeth and let you judge the planned shape and shade [5].
- Some sensitivity after bonding is not unusual; in one small trial, every case had settled by the two-week check [7].
- Wait at least 24 hours after restorative dental treatment before flying, ideally a week [10].

Before you travel
What happens before you book your flights?
The General Dental Council suggests speaking to your own dentist first, because they know your dental history [3]. Then:
- Online consultationFor our free online consultation, send a few phone photos of your smile, teeth and bite, plus a recent X-ray if you have one. A dentist reviews them, and you receive a personalised plan and a written quote, both confirmed after the examination at the clinic.
- Answers in writingWho will treat you, what aftercare is provided, who to contact after you fly home, and who pays for extra flights and hotel nights if more treatment is needed [3].
- Whitening firstWhitening does not change the colour of porcelain [12], so if you want whiter natural teeth, teeth whitening comes before the veneer shade is chosen.
Our checklist for dental treatment in Turkey covers your medical history and medicines. Once you are happy with the plan, your coordinator agrees dates with you, reserves your appointments and arranges your hotel and transfers, and you receive a written itinerary.
Day by day
How many days do you need in Istanbul for veneers?
Our typical plan for porcelain veneers is 5–7 days in Istanbul with two main visits, because the veneers are made in a dental laboratory between them [2]. It is a plan, not a promise: decay and gum problems are treated first, and the need for root canal treatment is usually decided before bonding [12]. The NHS advises allowing for a longer stay if necessary [4], so choose flexible tickets.

Final check
Your bite is checked and adjusted [6], and you leave with written care instructions.
Timelines vary with your teeth and the treatment plan; your dentist confirms them after examining you.
Days 1–2
What happens at the examination and preparation visit?
Your dentist examines your teeth, gums and bite, takes X-rays and a digital scan, and asks about grinding, because grinding is linked to more veneer failures [11]. With digital smile design, you see the planned shape and shade on screen before anything is changed. Our porcelain veneers are e-max, made from genuine IPS e.max by Ivoclar.
Preparation is done under local anaesthetic when needed. A small amount of enamel is removed, so the treatment cannot be reversed [1], and a scan or impression goes to the laboratory [2]. You leave with temporary veneers [1]: they help protect the prepared teeth against sensitivity and let you and your dentist judge and refine the shape and shade before the final veneers are made [5].
Days 2–5
How should you eat and rest between appointments?
These days are for rest: your hotel is booked around your appointments, and private transfers take you between the hotel and the clinic. A few habits protect your teeth:
- After the anaestheticMove carefully until it has fully worn off, as you may not notice if you hurt yourself [9]. Eat once the feeling is back.
- With temporariesThey are held with a temporary cement or a few small spots of bonding [6][7]. Follow your dentist's food advice and do not bite hard things or your nails [1].
- SensitivityWhere dentine is exposed, heat, cold and sweet things reach the nerve more easily [8]. Lukewarm food and drinks are kinder.
- Keep cleaningBrush gently around the temporaries; the gum around restorations is sensitive to plaque [12].
Days 5–7
What happens at the try-in and bonding visit?
Bring honest opinions to this visit.
- Try-inThe veneers are placed on your teeth to check fit, shape and colour [1][2]. A review of veneer bonding calls the try-in essential to minimise errors after cementation [6]. If something is not right, say so now: adjustments are made before bonding [1].
- BondingThe teeth are cleaned [1]; for e-max, the inside of each veneer is etched and primed with silane, then bonded with a resin cement hardened with a curing light [6][7].
- Bite checkYour dentist adjusts the bite straight away and recommends a night guard if you grind or clench [6].
In one small randomised trial, 12 of 60 e-max veneers were sensitive at the check one week after bonding, and all had settled by the two-week check [7]. Ask for copies of your X-rays and a note of the material used, so a dentist at home has the full picture.
From our dentist
“The day-by-day plan on this page is a good map, but your own timetable is set after the examination, once I have seen your teeth, gums and bite. The day I care most about is the try-in. Look at the veneers in daylight, smile and talk, and tell me if the shape or shade does not feel like you: at that point a change is simple, after bonding it is not.”

- A list of your medicines and doses.
- Recent X-rays and letters from your dentist; the NHS suggests asking how to pass your medical notes to the team abroad [4].
- Travel insurance details, after telling your insurer about the treatment [4].
- A soft toothbrush and, if your dentist agrees, a toothpaste for sensitive teeth [8].
- Photos of smiles you like, to help the smile design conversation.
Flying home
When can you fly after veneers?
Changes in air pressure can cause toothache, called barodontalgia, usually in teeth with existing problems [10]. A 2023 article in the British Dental Journal advises postponing flights for at least 24 hours after restorative dental treatment, and recommends a week where possible [10]. Book your return flight no earlier than the day after bonding, agree the date with your dentist first, and stay long enough to recover before travelling home [4].
Back home
What aftercare do you need when you fly home?
Veneers need the same care as natural teeth:
- Clean wellBrush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth daily; decay can still start around a veneer [1].
- Protect themDo not bite hard objects, and wear a mouthguard for contact sports [1]. If you grind, wear the night guard your dentist recommends [6][11].
- Check-upsIn a review of 25 studies, most failures from fracture or debonding happened within two years of bonding [11], so register with a dentist at home and keep regular check-ups [2].
- Stay in touchYour coordinator stays in touch for up to two years and arranges remote check-ins with your dentist.
Get advice if sensitivity lasts more than a few weeks or is severe [8], or if a veneer chips or feels loose [1]. Veneers do not last a lifetime, and a small percentage of teeth with veneers or crowns need root canal treatment, sometimes years later [12]. See how long veneers last.
Questions
A veneers trip to Istanbul: frequently asked questions
Can't find your answer? Our coordinators are happy to help on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppHow many days do I need in Istanbul for veneers?
Our typical plan for porcelain veneers is 5–7 days with two main visits. Your dentist confirms the days after the examination and X-rays, and treatment needed first can add time.
Can I fly home the day after my veneers are bonded?
A 2023 British Dental Journal article advises waiting at least 24 hours after restorative dental treatment before flying, and a week where possible [10]. Agree your return date with your dentist before you book it.
Will my teeth be sensitive after veneers?
Possibly, for a short time. In one small trial, 12 of 60 e-max veneers were sensitive a week after bonding, and all had settled by the two-week check [7]. See a dentist if it lasts more than a few weeks or is severe [8].
What if a temporary veneer comes off?
Keep it and contact your coordinator. Temporaries are held with a temporary cement or a few small spots of bonding rather than bonded like the final veneers [6][7], so this can happen; your dentist can refit or replace it.
What if I do not like the shape or colour at the try-in?
Say so before anything is bonded. The try-in is there to check fit, shape and colour, and adjustments are made before bonding [1][2].
Can I whiten my teeth after getting veneers?
Whitening does not change the colour of porcelain [12], so whitened natural teeth would no longer match. Whiten before the veneer shade is chosen.
